There’s something about Kailua Kona that just feels like magic. Maybe it’s the way the sun hits the cliffs at golden hour or how the ocean breeze makes everything feel a little more alive. Either way, it’s one of the most incredible places for an engagement session, and I was lucky enough to capture one recently that felt so special.

We planned an evening that included cliffside views, a vintage car, and a barefoot walk on the beach, ending with some fun, creative nighttime shots.

We began the session at one of Kailua Kona’s picturesque cliffside locations, where the couple stood against a dramatic backdrop of rugged lava rocks and cliffside ocean views.

 

A Vintage Car 

Next, we headed to a scenic spot where a old Porsche vintage car awaited. The couple wanted to incorporate an old-school vibe into their session, and the classic car provided just that. Against the tropical landscape of Kailua Kona, the sleek design and polished chrome of the vehicle mixed with the vibrant flower colors added a touch of elegance and nostalgia. Whether leaning against the car, sharing a sweet embrace in the driver’s seat, or capturing a candid laugh through the window, every shot was fun and had a lot of charm.

 

Beachside Moments and Sunset Magic

After capturing some classic car portraits, we made our way to the beach. The couple kicked off their shoes and walked along the soft white sand as I started snapping photos. We parked the vintage car right on the beach, and as we worked through different poses, people driving by honked and called out compliments, adding to the excitement of the moment. The atmosphere was filled with warmth, laughter, and pure love. We also were bumping some fun hip hop music.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, we decided to try something different—some dramatic, editorial-style flash photography. It gave the final shots this cool, artistic vibe, and honestly, it was a fun way to wrap up the session. Nothing too serious, just experimenting with light and capturing something unique to them.
